Connection to Fraser Valley: I have family and friends who live in Abbotsford and Chilliwack, and I also work and perform sometimes with my church's choir in Abbotsford.

Argel MDR is a Leo Award–nominated, Ovation Award–winning Filipino-Canadian singer-songwriter, musical theatre performer, and composer based in Surrey, BC. His music fuses electro-pop with theatrical storytelling, centring themes of self-love, immigrant identity, and advocacy. His music blends electro-pop and theatrical storytelling, shaped by influences like Sam Smith, Adele, Ben Platt, and Original Pinoy Music (OPM). Argel’s work explores self-love, immigrant identity, and advocacy. A Top 10 finalist in CBC’s Toyota Searchlight 2021, Argel also received the Music Category at the 2022 Surrey Art and Business Awards. He earned an Ovation Award for his performance in ELF: The Musical (Arts Club) and was nominated for a Leo Award in 2024 for composing the score of the short film DTF?. His recent EP Love Me Not explores heartbreak through the stages of grief, while his single “Sail Away” was featured on Spotify’s Fresh Finds Philippines. Argel is committed to uplifting IBPOC voices, using his work to champion inclusion, mental health, and representation.
