Connection to Fraser Valley: Those of us not in Abbotsford either grew up here or attended UFV.

The Sylvia Platters are a Fraser Valley janglepop band described by Rosy Overdrive as “one of the best guitar pop bands going.” Their latest album is Vivian Elixir: a collection of melancholic and melodic indie rock tracks that touch on depression, alienation, conspiracy theorists, and making love last. Keen appreciation for melody and melancholy is The Sylvia Platters’ stock in trade. The Abbotsford, BC band has been crafting idiosyncratic jangle pop gems since 2014. Alex Kerc-Murchison’s bright, tuneful guitarwork and Stephen Carl O’Shea’s dark basslines complement and enhance brotherly duo Nick and Tim Ubels’ knack for indelible lyrics and vocal melodies. Nick’s thrumming guitar and Tim’s propulsive drumming round out the band’s distinctive sound.
