About The Artist

Located in Abbotsford and Vancouver

Connection to Fraser Valley: Our two Vancouver residents are former Abbostford residents with strong ties to the local music scene. One is also a graduate of UFV.

The Sylvia Platters have been crafting well-tuned guitar pop since 2014. Hailing from BC’s Fraser Valley, the band has demonstrated a keen appreciation for melody and melancholy across their many releases and a reputation for dynamic live performances across their more than 80 shows across Western Canada.

Their 2022 cassette Youth Without Virtue exhumed the band’s shared history in the evangelical church, and garnered praise from The Vancouver Sun, Jangelpop Hub, and college press across Canada.

In late 2022, they released “Norman 4” a one-off single and tribute to their idol, Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake. In 2023 they released a live video for Youth Without Virtue standout “Blue Juniper” and will be releasing a five-song EP, Live at Malibu Sound, this spring before recording their studio follow up.

The Sylvia Platters are Alex Kerc-Murchison, Nick Ubels, Stephen Carl O’Shea, and Tim Ubels.
