Connection to Fraser Valley: I am the lead singer/band leader of this group – I live in Surrey (Linda Szentes)My bass player is from Abbotsford – Johan Worst
Linda Szentes and Jazzlinks is a jazz combo made up of friends who are also accomplished, improvising musicians. Linda’s core rhythm section includes Michael Toth, guitar, Johan Worst, bass, a native of Abbotsford, and Zoltan Kollar, drums.
Linda is an accomplished and versatile singer in many genres who has loved and listened to jazz throughout her life. She is a musician and a singer: combined with her lyrical, flexible voice and rhythmic sensitivity, she is a natural improviser.
This group successfully interprets a wide repertoire and a diversity of styles within the jazz genre: classic jazz standards, swing era tunes, blues-inflected jazz, latin/bossa and 70’s funk. Warm and blues oriented, their sound is distinctive and they groove as one!
Post-Covid, the group has hosted two very successful Livestream concerts, one of which was generously sponsored by the Abbotsford Arts Council as part of the Mill Lake Music series. They were also nominated for a performance award in the Jazz Category of the Fraser Valley Music Awards in November 2020, and an arty award through the Abbotsford Arts Council in 2021
Since the easing of restrictions in June 2021, Jazzlinks has been very busy participating in outdoor summer concerts in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows; entertaining seniors in the Tri-Cities/Langley/Fraser Valley; and playing in Jazz Vespers Services in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley (Northwood/Surrey).
