GerryT is a life long bass player, composer and performer, and bass instructor. For the past 22 years he has played with Quintessential Jazz Band, winner of the 2018 Fraser Valley Music Award. Gerry’s compositions have been heard on CBC and CKUA radio as well as a variety of streming platforms. His latest album Just Me and My Basses is a unique “basses only” album of original compositions and two covers – Nardis and Christmas Time is Here. I wanted to record using just my four basses – like four voices that make up a quartet. Rather than a thumping “bass in your face” project I was aiming for a jazzy, layered, sound with melodies, harmonies, chords, bass lines and solos that featured only bass guitars expressing a range of voicings and tones.
